Dear all,
The 9th Digital Belt and Road Conference (DBAR 2025) will be held in Chengdu, China from June 8 – 11, 2025. With the theme “Sustainable Transformation through Digital Sciences”, At this 10th year milestone conference DBAR aims to showcase research and work dedicated to the innovative use of AI and advanced digital methods, to drive progress toward the SDGs. We aim to underscore the importance of global collaboration and strategic foresight to sustain and advance efforts toward sustainability beyond the Agenda 2030 framework.
We hope to develop a rich program with innovative sessions and side events during the milestone conference and open this call for proposals with themes relevant to DBAR foci (see below) ble, highlighting scientific progress within their domains and achievements in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to address critical challenges in sustainability science
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to hearing from you.
Best Regards,
Digital Belt and Road Program

Session Categories (DBAR Foci) / 分会类别 (DBAR关注领域) | ||
1 | Agriculture and Food Security |
This foci aims to addresses the critical challenges of food security due to the projected rise in global population in the coming decades. Recognizing the significance of food security issues in developing countries, it seeks to establish a community dedicated to holistic agriculture monitoring. DBAR aims to bridge information gaps related to food security and nutrition, fostering collaborative efforts to support sustainable agricultural practices and ensure global food resilience.

2 | Big Earth Data |
This foci aims to advance the use of an efficient Earth Observation data-sharing, analysis and cooperation framework. It emphasizes the development of a Big Data Platform, data driven research, capacity building, and demonstration projects. Through this foci DBAR aims to address the challenges identified in other foci, fostering collaboration and innovation to support sustainable development efforts.
Convener:DBAR-DATA Co-Chair |
3 | Disaster Risk Reduction |
The foci aims to integrate Earth Observation data with social vulnerability data to advance the implementation of the Sendai Framework in developing countries. It will promote adoption of comprehensive approach that encompasses satellite information, communication technologies, and implementation-oriented solutions, including hardware innovations, to address risk reduction challenges effectively.
Convener:DBAR-DISASTER Co-Chair (CHEN Fang, Rajib Shaw) |
4 | Environmental Change |
The foci aims to elucidate processes and mechanisms of environmental changes in terrestrial ecosystem and water resources within the developing countries and to analyze their impact and response to global environmental changes and assess the ecological risk and safety of global development.
Convener:DBAR-ENVI Co-Chair ( LI Xinwu ,JIA Gensuo) |
5 |
Natural and Cultural Heritage |
This foci brings into focus conflicting relationship between conservation of heritage sites and modern development. This is mostly due to lack of integration of data and information on heritage sites at planning stages of development projects. DBAR aims to formulate and establish processes that ensure timely integration of data on these sites into the design, development and financing of mega-scale, multi-country infrastructure and economic projects.
Convener:DBAR-HERITAGE Co-Chair (WANG Xinyuan, Shahina Tariq, Rosa Lasaponara) |
6 | Urban Environment |
Urban expansion is considered a powerful sign of progress in many cultures and civilizations. However, issues related to effective resource management and transportation, pollution and ecological disturbances require attention. This foci aims to promote research-based solutions to various impacts of urban expansion and their mitigation, promoting sustainable urban development in developing countries.
Convener:DBAR-URBAN Co-Chair (LU Linlin, Martino Pesaresi, BAN Yifang) |
7 | Water |
This foci aims to study water resources and their use in developing countries through the application of Earth Observation data. It emphasizes investments in capacity building for utilizing EO data in water resource assessment and management while fostering international cooperation. These efforts aim to generate scientific evidence and critical information to support the sustainable use of water resources in developing countries.
Convener:DBAR-WATER Co-Chair (JIA Li, Marco Mancini, Bob Su) |
8 | Coastal Zone |
This foci aims to address the significant impacts of human activities and climate change on coastal ecosystems. It aims to improve access to science, data, technology, and knowledge related to coastal environments while facilitating research on monitoring, conserving, and managing coastal and marine ecosystems. By strengthening the capacities of developing countries and stakeholders, DBAR seeks to deliver effective sustainable development policies and strategies to safeguard coastal environments.
Convener:DBAR-COAST Co-Chair (ZHANG Li, LIN Hui, Mazlan bin Hashim) |
9 | High Mountain and Cold Regions |
From the perspective of the earth climate system, there is a need for continuous and long-term monitoring of cryosphere to better understand the role it plays in the global climate. This foci aims to utilize existing observations and understanding on the interactions among Earth’s poles and cold regions of High Asia and northern Eurasia, to support the sustainable ‘Ice Silk Road’.
